The Problem
Milk temperature excursions, compressor failures, and unlogged CIP cycles at a BMC site are almost always discovered the next morning — by a manual log check, or worse, by a lab test on milk that has already been compromised. Paper registers and disconnected spreadsheets give dairy cooperatives no way to catch a problem while it is still happening, and no defensible audit trail when FSSAI or Dairy Board inspectors ask for one.
The Solution
MilkMitra (दुग्धसारथी) is a live, deployed IoT platform for monitoring Bulk Milk Coolers at dairy collection centres, cooperative societies, and chilling plants. A purpose-built ESP32 data logger — housed in an IP67 polycarbonate enclosure — is installed at each BMC site and continuously records milk temperature via a food-grade PT-100 sensor (accuracy ±0.2°C), dual compressor status (CMP-1 & CMP-2), agitator operation, CIP cleaning cycles, power & generator status, and tank milk volume via IP65/IP68 electromagnetic in-flow & out-flow meters. Data streams to a centralised cloud server over Wi-Fi in real time, with an 8-hour battery backup ensuring logging continues through power failures.
The web-based management portal — desktop, tablet, and mobile — gives every role the view it needs: CEOs see all sites, Site Heads see only their own, and field officers monitor on the go. Threshold breaches raise an on-screen, timestamped alarm the moment they happen — not the next morning.
